2022 Annual Nut Drop

With summer drawing to a close, conker season is almost here. Before any extra training in preparation for the Conker Cup, there is a first task: collecting your conkers. There is no better way to do it than at our annual Nut Drop, alongside family, friends and fellow enthusiasts. Here is everything you need to know about this year’s event.

What is the Nut Drop?

Autumn brings many things: cooler weather, warm jumpers and, above all, conkers. Every year, horse chestnut trees drop their seeds, which are known as conkers. According to the Woodland Trust, conkers are ready to use once they have been picked up from the ground. Experienced players know that the sooner a conker is collected after it falls, the better its chance of being fit and strong: conkers left too long may become weak and soft unless they are laid down to mature properly. A conker is competition-ready when it has hardened and ripened in the middle.

There is no better way to begin the conker season than by spending a day with friends and family collecting as many good conkers as you can. This year’s Nut Drop takes place on 23rd October. If you are unable to organise a collection of your own, join us at the original Nut Drop.

Known as the leading “non-playing” get-together for conker enthusiasts, the annual Conker Cup Nut Drop is an opportunity to meet new people, assess your competition and find out what to expect at the upcoming Conker Cup. Full details of the day are available on our Facebook page.

What else do I need to know?

Whether you follow Street Conkers or are preparing for the Conker Cup, the Nut Drop is ideal for anyone looking to collect as many horse chestnuts as possible. Before the day, pick up one of our new Conker Cup Nut Sacks: ideal for storing your horse chestnuts, and a sign that you belong to a unique community. With a Nut Sack on your shoulder, there is no limit to what you can achieve this conker season.
