Conker Cup Supporting Artists

Conker Cup has joined the Artist Support Pledge movement by purchasing Conker Reliquary.

Artist Richard Howell has released a piece titled Conker Reliquary as part of the Artist Support Pledge. Conker Cup, having broken open the piggy bank, is proud to announce that it has acquired the piece.

The Artist Support Pledge was established by Matthew Burrows at the start of the global pandemic. With many art fairs and exhibitions cancelled, Mr Burrows devised a way to support artists at risk of losing their homes. The idea is simple: artists sell works for £200 ($200 or €200) or less, and each time an artist reaches £1,000 in sales (or 1,000 in their chosen currency), they buy another artist’s work for £200. To date, the movement has raised over £20 million for artists and makers around the world.

For Richard, the piece recalls childhood memories of throwing sticks up into horse chestnut trees and gathering the treasure that fell.

For the uninitiated, a reliquary is a container for holy relics, and there are few things holier than a conker. Thank you, Richard, for your work. It has pride of place in the Conker Cup office and will be treasured forever.
