THE GOLDEN CONKERS

Thursday 16th January 2020 will no longer be just another unremarkable day. It enters the history books as the day on which the Golden Conker Awards were founded.

The Golden Conker (GC) is the highest award in the United Kingdom’s conker honours system. It may be awarded posthumously, and to any person who has made a significant contribution to furthering the game of conkers and nut sports generally. The awards are sanctioned by the Conker Federation and issued by Conker Cup. Unlike traditional honours, they may be conferred at any time of year. It is not possible to be entered for an award. Recommendations may be made by anyone; however, the shortlisting and honours process is shrouded in secrecy.

Recipients of a Golden Conker receive the coveted conker statuette and are entitled to use the letters GC after their name on formal occasions. More than that, they are immortalised on the conker honours list at conkercup.com. The GC was first conferred in 2020, the year of its foundation. To date, the Golden Conker has been awarded only once.
